Arusha Coffee Lodge
Thirty plantation houses set within one of Tanzania’s largest coffee estates, on the edge of Arusha. A restful stop either side of a safari, built around the original landowner’s early-1900s farmhouse.
The Setting
Arusha Coffee Lodge sits within the Burka Coffee Estate on the outskirts of Arusha, among some of Tanzania’s largest working coffee plantations. Thirty Plantation Houses radiate out into the evergreen coffee fields around the estate’s original farmhouse, which dates to the early 1900s. An enclosed swimming pool, garden terrace and open log fires in the main house give the lodge a settled, unhurried character rather than a transit-hotel feel.
A guided Coffee Tour through the estate — from picking to roasting to the cup — is the lodge’s signature activity, alongside access to Arusha’s Cultural Heritage Centre and, for those with a day to spare, Arusha National Park nearby.
Access
Arusha Airport is a short drive away, making the lodge a convenient first or last stop for parties flying into the northern safari circuit.
Planning a Stay
One night is generally sufficient, either on arrival to rest before heading into the bush, or before departure to unwind after a longer safari. Arusha Coffee Lodge pairs naturally with any itinerary through the northern circuit — the Serengeti, Ngorongoro, Tarangire and Lake Manyara.
