Tambarare Camp, an A&K Sanctuary

Sanctuary Tambarare Camp

Sanctuary Tambarare Camp

Sanctuary Tambarare Camp is located within the wildlife-rich plains of Ol Pejeta Conservancy, one of Kenya’s most important conservation areas.

Positioned beneath the dramatic slopes of Mount Kenya, the camp offers an intimate safari experience within a landscape known for its thriving rhino populations and expansive savannah plains.

Although Ol Pejeta is widely recognised for its conservation work, it also provides excellent wildlife viewing. Consequently, Tambarare Camp offers both strong safari encounters and meaningful conservation experiences in the Central Highlands.

Landscape & Setting

The plains of Ol Pejeta stretch across the foothills of Mount Kenya, creating a landscape where open grasslands meet forested mountain slopes.

During clear mornings the peaks of Mount Kenya rise dramatically above the horizon. Meanwhile, the surrounding plains support large numbers of wildlife moving between waterholes and grazing areas.

Because the conservancy is privately managed, wildlife viewing often feels quieter and more controlled than in busier national parks. As a result, guests frequently encounter animals without large numbers of other vehicles nearby.

Insider Tips

Early morning game drives often provide the best wildlife sightings as animals move across the plains in cooler temperatures.

Because the conservancy sits beneath Mount Kenya, sunrise frequently offers the clearest views of the mountain’s peaks.

In addition, visiting the northern white rhino sanctuary early in the day allows more time to understand the conservation work taking place there.
