Frequently Asked Questions

The most common questions about planning an African safari with Oloi Shorua — how we work, what we cover, logistics, safety and practical preparation.

About Oloi Shorua

What is Oloi Shorua?

Oloi Shorua is a privately led safari design house specialising in African safaris and bespoke journeys. We design private, tailor-made travel experiences with a strong focus on wildlife, landscape and discretion — across East and Southern Africa.

Where is Oloi Shorua based?

We are headquartered in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, with operational offices in India, Kenya and Costa Rica. This structure allows us to serve international clients from the Gulf while maintaining direct, on-ground knowledge across Africa.

What makes Oloi Shorua different?

We design journeys without templates or pre-set itineraries. We tailor every experience around time, place and intent — prioritising depth, privacy and considered execution over volume or speed. In particular, the founder is personally involved in the design of every journey.

Safari and Travel Services

Which African destinations do you operate in?

We design safaris and journeys across Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, Zambia and Zimbabwe. Additionally, other destinations are available on request.

Do you offer customised safari itineraries?

Yes. Every journey is fully customised. We do not sell fixed packages or fixed departures.

What types of accommodation do you arrange?

Depending on destination and preference, we arrange luxury lodges and safari camps, boutique properties, private villas and exclusive-use houses. Furthermore, we select all accommodation based on location within the ecosystem, service quality and conservation credibility.

When is the best time to go on safari?

For East Africa — Kenya and Tanzania — July to October offers the Great Migration and strong general game viewing. January to March is also excellent for predator activity and fewer vehicles. For Southern Africa, the dry season between May and September produces the best wildlife visibility. Consequently, we advise seasonality based on your specific region and interests. For a detailed breakdown see our Kenya and Tanzania Safari Guides.

Flights, Visas and Documentation

Do you book international flights?

We do not book international flights. However, we assist and advise on recommended routes, timing considerations for safari logistics and arrival planning. You book international flights independently.

Do you arrange visas?

We do not process visas directly. We advise on visa requirements, documentation and timelines based on nationality and destination. For complete entry requirements across Africa, see our Africa Entry Requirements page.

Booking and Payments

How do I start planning a journey?

Begin by contacting us directly. We start with a conversation — not a form. Email: connect@oloishorua.com

What payment methods do you accept?

We also accept payments via bank transfer or international payment gateways. Similarly, we share details once we confirm a journey.

What is your cancellation policy?

Cancellation terms vary depending on destination, lodge policies and timing. We strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance for all journeys.

Safety, Health and Practicalities

Is it safe to travel on safari?

Yes. We work with experienced guides, secure lodges and established partners across all our safari regions. Indeed, safety and logistics are integral to every journey we design. For a detailed discussion see Are African Safaris Safe?

Are safaris suitable for families?

Yes. Certain regions and lodges are particularly well suited for families, including malaria-free areas in South Africa and child-friendly camps across East Africa. Consequently, we advise on the right combination based on the ages and interests of the group.

What health precautions are required?

Requirements vary by destination and nationality. Common considerations include yellow fever vaccination in some regions and malaria prophylaxis in certain areas. Additionally, we provide guidance prior to travel. For detailed health preparation see our Kenya Health and Vaccination Guide.

What should I pack for a safari?

Essentials include neutral-coloured clothing, comfortable walking shoes, a hat and sunglasses, camera and binoculars. Furthermore, we provide a detailed packing guide per journey. See also: What to Carry on Safari.

Do you offer multilingual guides?

We arrange guides in English. Other languages may be available on request depending on destination.

Sustainability and Ethics

Is Oloi Shorua committed to responsible travel?

Yes. We prioritise ethical wildlife encounters, conservation-focused partners and respect for local communities. We avoid mass tourism models and over-commercialised experiences. Moreover, our lodge selection criteria explicitly include conservation credibility and community benefit.

Partnerships and Trade

Do you work with travel agencies or advisors?

Yes. We collaborate with select travel advisors and agencies on a net basis. For more information see our Africa Desk.
