Jannah Lamu
Jannah Lamu is a beautifully restored Swahili house located in the quiet village of Shela on Lamu Island.
Unlike traditional beach resorts, Jannah offers a far more intimate experience. The property functions as a small boutique residence where guests typically book rooms within the house or occasionally reserve the entire property for private stays.
Because the house sits within the narrow lanes of Shela village, guests experience the rhythm of island life rather than the atmosphere of a conventional hotel.

Landscape & Setting
The Lamu archipelago forms a chain of coral islands along Kenya’s northern coastline, where mangrove channels, tidal flats and long sandy beaches shape the landscape.
Jannah sits just a short walk from Shela Beach and overlooks the channel separating Lamu Island from Manda Island. Meanwhile, the surrounding streets reveal traditional Swahili architecture, carved wooden doors and quiet courtyards typical of the island.
Because vehicles are absent from Lamu, the environment remains peaceful and largely unchanged by modern development.

Accommodation
Accommodation at Jannah consists of a small number of individually designed rooms arranged within the traditional Swahili house.
Features include:
- Spacious rooms with carved wooden doors and traditional design
- Rooftop terraces overlooking the Lamu channel
- Cool coral-stone interiors suited to the coastal climate
- Private bathrooms and comfortable living spaces
The architecture reflects classic Swahili design with courtyards, shaded verandas and rooftop sitting areas.

Insider Tips
Early morning walks through Shela village reveal one of the most atmospheric parts of the island before the day begins.
Meanwhile, sunset views from the rooftop terraces often capture dhows sailing quietly along the Lamu channel.
Because the property operates more like a private house than a hotel, the atmosphere remains relaxed and personal.
Oloi Shorua Must-Do
Take a traditional dhow sailing trip around the Lamu archipelago, especially in the late afternoon when the light across the Indian Ocean becomes particularly beautiful.
Oloi Shorua Recommendation
We recommend combining time at Jannah with a visit to Lamu Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage site where Swahili architecture and centuries of coastal trading history remain remarkably preserved.
