Luxury Tanzania Safari Lodges

Tanzania holds the largest connected wildlife ecosystem in Africa, and its lodge landscape reflects that scale. The Serengeti alone divides into distinct zones — south, central, west and north — each with its own seasonal logic, while Ngorongoro, Tarangire, Ruaha and Nyerere each bring a different ecosystem entirely into the same country.

At Oloi Shorua, we curate a carefully selected collection of luxury safari lodges and camps across Tanzania. Each property in our portfolio has been chosen for its position within a specific landscape, its guiding quality, and its ability to deliver a genuine safari experience without unnecessary excess.

This guide introduces the finest safari regions in Tanzania and the lodges we recommend in each.

The Best Safari Regions in Tanzania

Tanzania’s wildlife areas range from the open plains of the southern Serengeti to the remote river systems of the south. Below are the principal regions where we recommend lodges.

Serengeti Safari Lodges

The Serengeti is Tanzania’s defining landscape and the centre of the Great Migration. Southern Serengeti hosts the wildebeest calving season between January and March; central Serengeti holds strong resident predator populations year-round; the north sees the Mara River crossings between July and October.

Recommended lodges include:

See the full Serengeti Safari Lodges collection for the complete list across all camps and collections operating in the park.

Ngorongoro Safari Lodges

The Ngorongoro Crater is a collapsed volcanic caldera holding one of the most concentrated wildlife populations on the continent, viewable from a single enclosed ecosystem roughly 260 square kilometres in size.

Recommended lodges include:

See the full Ngorongoro Safari Lodges collection for further properties around the crater.

Tarangire Safari Lodges

Tarangire holds some of the largest dry-season elephant aggregations in East Africa, drawn to the Tarangire River through a landscape defined by ancient baobab trees.

Recommended lodges include:

See the full Tarangire Safari Lodges collection for further properties in the area.

Ruaha Safari Lodges

Ruaha is Tanzania’s most significant southern park and among the least visited of its size on the continent, holding some of Africa’s largest elephant and lion populations along the Great Ruaha River.

Recommended lodges include:

See the full Ruaha Safari Lodges collection for further properties in the park.

Nyerere Safari Lodges

Formerly the Selous Game Reserve, Nyerere is the largest protected area in Africa, built around the Rufiji River and a tradition of boat-based and walking safaris not found in the northern circuit.

Recommended lodges include:

See the full Nyerere Safari Lodges collection for further properties in the reserve.

Mahale Safari Lodges

On the remote shore of Lake Tanganyika, Mahale Mountains National Park is reached almost exclusively for chimpanzee trekking into the forested mountains rising directly behind the lake.

Recommended lodge:

See the full Mahale Safari Lodges page for further detail on this region.

Arusha

Arusha sits at the gateway to Tanzania’s northern safari circuit, a practical first or last stop either side of a wider journey into the Serengeti, Ngorongoro and Tarangire.

Recommended property:

See the full Arusha page for more detail on planning a stay either side of your safari.

Planning a Luxury Safari in Tanzania

A well-designed Tanzania itinerary typically combines two or three regions rather than attempting to cover the whole country in one trip. Many journeys pair the Serengeti with Ngorongoro and Tarangire as a northern circuit, or combine Ruaha with Nyerere as a quieter southern alternative.

Each safari we design at Oloi Shorua is tailored to the traveller, combining the right lodges with seamless logistics and the regional expertise to position a journey at the right point in the migration’s annual cycle.
