Mahali Mzuri
Olare Motorogi Conservancy, Maasai Mara — Virgin Limited Edition
Mahali Mzuri sits on a ridge within the Olare Motorogi Conservancy. The name means beautiful place in Swahili. It earns it. From the camp’s elevated position, the Mara plains stretch in every direction below.
Part of the Virgin Limited Edition portfolio, the camp operates in one of the finest private areas of the Mara ecosystem. However, the Olare Motorogi Conservancy is what matters most. Low vehicle numbers, off-road access and night drives produce a quality of safari that the reserve itself cannot match.

Location and Landscape
The Olare Motorogi Conservancy covers 35,000 acres on the northern edge of the Maasai Mara ecosystem. Rolling hills, open savannah and seasonal river valleys define the terrain. Consequently, predator density here ranks among the highest in the entire Mara. Lion, cheetah and leopard are encountered regularly. Additionally, the conservancy falls directly on Great Migration routes between July and October.
The conservancy’s open rolling terrain creates ideal cheetah habitat. Cheetahs use the undulating landscape as cover before a chase. Because vehicle numbers are strictly capped, sightings here are notably calmer than in the reserve. For consistent cheetah encounters, Olare Motorogi is among the most reliable areas in Kenya.

Accommodation
Twelve tented suites sit on raised wooden decks along the ridge. Floor-to-ceiling openings face the plains below. Each suite has a private terrace, spacious en-suite bathroom and contemporary interiors. At the main area, an infinity pool overlooks the valley — one of the better-positioned pools in the Mara circuit.
The ridge setting produces dramatic afternoon light and storm skies. For photographers, the late afternoon at Mahali Mzuri consistently delivers some of the most striking conditions in the ecosystem. Furthermore, sunrise from the terrace — with the plains emerging below — is worth waking early for.

Safari Experience
Game drives cover the Olare Motorogi Conservancy and access the wider Maasai Mara National Reserve. Inside the conservancy, guides go off-road and track animals through the bush. Night drives run after dark. These produce nocturnal species rarely seen in daylight — serval, aardwolf, civet and hunting lion. Because vehicle numbers are capped, every sighting carries genuine quality.
During migration season, wildebeest and zebra move through the conservancy directly. Consequently, migration viewing here requires no long drive into the reserve. The herds arrive on the conservancy’s own terrain, often with very few other vehicles present.
When to Visit
The conservancy delivers strong game viewing throughout the year. However, July through October brings the Great Migration. Wildebeest and zebra move through the ecosystem in large concentrations during this period. December through March delivers dry conditions and excellent predator activity. April and May bring lush green landscapes. Additionally, visitor numbers drop and rates fall — for those who know the Mara, the green season is worth serious consideration.
Combining Mahali Mzuri with Other Kenya Destinations
Mahali Mzuri pairs naturally with Laikipia for a wider Kenya circuit. Borana, Lewa or Segera add highland terrain and rhino to the itinerary. Samburu to the north brings the northern frontier ecosystem and the Samburu Special Five. Furthermore, the Kenya coast closes a journey naturally at the Indian Ocean.
