Asilia Dunia Camp

Dunia Camp

Central Serengeti, Moru Kopjes — Asilia Africa

Dunia Camp sits in a secluded corner of the south-central Serengeti, between the Moru Kopjes and the wider Seronera Valley. Uniquely, the camp operates as the only safari camp in Africa run entirely by women. The team spans camp manager, guides, chefs and waiting staff alike. As a result, the camp’s reputation rests as much on this team as on its wildlife. Returning guests frequently describe the warmth of the atmosphere as the defining memory of their stay.

Because of its position, the camp offers ready access to three distinct game-viewing areas. The reliable, permanent-water Seronera Valley sits to the east. The quieter western corridor lies beyond it. The Moru Kopjes and southern plains complete the picture further south.

Location and Landscape

The Moru Kopjes shelter one of the Serengeti’s few remaining black rhino populations. Resident lion and leopard also favour the granite outcrops, using them as vantage points over the surrounding grassland. Dunia’s position between Seronera and the western corridor offers a useful balance. The camp delivers strong year-round game viewing independent of the migration. At the same time, it sits directly in the path of the herds, which move north between March and June, and south again in November and December.

Accommodation

Dunia offers eight spacious canvas tents, including one family unit, each raised on a platform with a private veranda looking out over open savannah. Bathrooms feature flush toilets and solar-heated showers, and solar power runs the camp, with a generator providing backup. The all-female team brings a notably warm, attentive register to service throughout the camp. Singing marks both arrivals and departures, a signature touch that has become one of Dunia’s defining details.

Safari Experience

Morning and afternoon game drives explore the Seronera Valley, the Moru Kopjes and the southern plains. Predators, typically, prove most active in the early hours. Guests can also arrange hot air balloon safaris in advance. In the evenings, meanwhile, the camp gathers around its “bush television,” a campfire accompanied by stories from the day’s sightings.

Dunia also runs a community education partnership with the Kamitei Foundation. This supports scholarships for local students pursuing careers in tourism, veterinary studies and nursing. Guests can learn more about the programme directly during their stay.

When to Visit

Dunia offers strong game viewing throughout the year, given its position between several distinct ecosystems. The migration typically passes through between March and June heading north, and again in November and December heading south. December through March also brings excellent predator sightings and resident wildlife viewing. The cooler, drier months from July to September, by contrast, concentrate wildlife around remaining water sources.

Practical Information

Dunia is reached via the Seronera airstrip, roughly 45 minutes by road from camp. The camp welcomes children aged 5 and older, with a family-sized tent offering separate bedrooms. However, because the camp sits unfenced within the open bush, families travelling with young children should stay attentive to the natural surroundings throughout their visit.

Combining Dunia Camp with Other Tanzania Destinations

Dunia’s central position pairs naturally with Namiri Plains to the east or one of Asilia’s migration camps further north or south. This gives travellers access to a wider stretch of the Serengeti within one trip. Ngorongoro Crater and Tarangire, similarly, both extend into a wider northern Tanzania circuit. Zanzibar, meanwhile, offers a coastal close to the journey.

Our Tanzania Safari Guide covers wider planning. Nearby options, meanwhile, sit within Serengeti Safari Lodges. The full country collection, finally, appears at Luxury Tanzania Safari Lodges.
