Singita Sabora Tented Camp

Singita Grumeti Reserve, Serengeti — Singita

Open plains surround Singita Sabora Tented Camp on every side. The camp sits within the Singita Grumeti Reserve. As a result, guests here sit at eye-level with the grazing herds. The herds pass the tents throughout the day. At Sasakwa, for example, an elevated view sets the tone. At Faru Faru, instead, a single waterhole does. Sabora, however, puts guests at ground level. In other words, it’s a simpler, more exposed register. That register has, in fact, anchored the camp’s reputation for over a decade.

A seamless flow between indoor and outdoor living defines the design. Specifically, each suite includes a private meditation deck. In addition, each has a secluded outdoor sala. Both are positioned, therefore, to keep guests connected to the bush.

Location and Landscape

Two waterholes sit within reach of camp. Consequently, they draw game throughout the day. Indeed, each of the nine tents looks directly onto one of them. Because of this position, Sabora’s location supports the Grumeti Fund’s conservation work. This work, in turn, underpins the reserve’s long-term sustainability across all 350,000 acres.

Game drives, meanwhile, cover the broader concession. Lion, leopard, elephant and buffalo are regularly sighted here. So too are cheetah, eland, gazelle and Maasai giraffe, across plains and woodland alike.

Accommodation

Nine one-bedroom tents make up the camp. Each one, for instance, has its own in-room pantry and a bean-to-cup coffee machine. A private outdoor sala with daybeds also overlooks the plains from every tent. In addition, the main lodge’s “Guest Deli” stocks wicker baskets and fridges. As a result, guests can picnic in their suite or at a secluded spot around camp.

An on-site solar PV system, meanwhile, supplies the camp’s energy. This sets Sabora apart from several other Grumeti properties. Therefore, it also fits the camp’s emphasis on simplicity without sacrificing comfort.

Safari Experience

A dedicated field guide leads daily morning and afternoon drives. Afterwards, afternoon drives end with a spot-lit evening return. This, in turn, reveals the camp’s nocturnal wildlife. In addition, guests aged 16 and older can join guided walking safaris. Hot air balloon safaris, too, remain available at additional cost.

Massage treatments, for example, happen in dedicated wellness rooms or guest suites. Likewise, a fitness centre sits alongside private in-room fitness areas. Beyond this, stargazing, birdwatching and wine tastings round out the activity list. So do cooking classes, guided meditation and yoga. Finally, a community visit through the Grumeti Fund is also on offer.

When to Visit

A fairly constant, equatorial climate defines Singita Grumeti year-round. From November to May, specifically, the Green Season brings long warm days. Short downpours arrive too, consequently transforming the reserve into lush grassland. From June to October, by contrast, comes the migration season. As a result, days turn warm, dry and sunny as herds move through the ecosystem.

Practical Information

Scheduled flights and private charters both reach the Sasakwa airstrip. Singita, in fact, arranges these directly within the Grumeti Reserve. However, checked baggage on scheduled flights is limited to 15kg. From there, the drive to Sabora runs 45 to 60 minutes. Flight time from Kilimanjaro, for instance, is roughly 1 hour 15 minutes direct. From Arusha Airport, instead, it’s closer to an hour.

The camp sits in a malaria-risk area. Therefore, guests should consult a doctor about antimalarial requirements beforehand. Current vaccination guidance, too, is worth checking ahead of travel. Otherwise, children aged 10 and older are welcome year-round. Check-in, finally, runs from 13h00, with check-out at 11h00.

Combining Singita Sabora Tented Camp with Other Tanzania Destinations

The same Grumeti concession holds Singita’s other Serengeti properties. These include, specifically, Sasakwa Lodge, Faru Faru Lodge, Serengeti House and Explore. As a result, a multi-property Grumeti stay is straightforward, without changing airstrips. Beyond the reserve, similarly, Ngorongoro Crater and Tarangire both extend the journey naturally. Zanzibar, meanwhile, offers a coastal close to a wider circuit.

Our Tanzania Safari Guide covers wider planning. Nearby options, meanwhile, sit within Serengeti Safari Lodges. The full country collection, finally, appears at Luxury Tanzania Safari Lodges.
