Roho ya Selous
Roho ya Selous sits on a headland in the heart of Nyerere National Park. The camp lies a stone’s throw from a palm-fringed tributary of the Rufiji River. The name means heart or soul in Swahili. The camp occupies what many guides consider the park’s single best wildlife-viewing area. As a result, Asilia Africa, which owns and runs the camp, retained the original Selous name even after the park’s official renaming.
Design and Setting
Eight tents make up the camp, including a dedicated family tent. Each sits well apart from its neighbours to maximise privacy. Every tent includes an evening-breeze cooling system above the bed, keeping even the hottest nights comfortable. An en-suite bathroom with indoor and outdoor showers completes each tent. The camp was designed and built with care, disturbing the surrounding landscape as little as possible.
Leafy, floral woodland reaches right up to the living spaces, and animals genuinely feel comfortable browsing near tents or passing through on their way to water. Giraffe regularly walk through camp itself, while impala graze nearby and hippo calls drift in from the surrounding waterways.

Game drives explore palm groves, marshes, woodland and riverside terrain. Boat trips and fishing on Lake Nzerakera add a different rhythm to the safari days. Walking safaris reveal the smaller signs of the bush that a vehicle would otherwise miss. Nyerere holds one of the largest wild dog populations anywhere on the continent.
