Four Seasons Safari Lodge Serengeti

Central Serengeti, Banagi — Four Seasons

This Four Seasons property sits on a low kopje in the central Serengeti, roughly 25 kilometres north of Seronera. With 72 rooms and five villas, it stands as the largest property in the park. The original building opened as the Bilila Lodge Kempinski. Four Seasons took over and renovated it in 2012, bringing the brand’s international hospitality standard to a setting more commonly associated with smaller, intimate bush camps.

Location and Landscape

Raised wooden walkways link the lodge’s various sections. The lodge sits directly beside a watering hole, drawing elephant and other plains game into close, passive view from the rooms, restaurant and infinity pool. The surrounding area also falls within the migration’s range in season. As one of the busier parts of the park, however, game drives here share ground with other lodges’ vehicles more than in some of the Serengeti’s quieter corners.

Accommodation

Guest rooms run spacious and air-conditioned. Four-poster beds, indigenous art and a mix of wood-plank flooring under thatched roofing finish the interiors. Five free-standing villas offer the highest tier of accommodation, with 24-hour personal attendant service and in-villa dining. These also include private infinity-edge plunge pools overlooking the savannah. Two-bedroom villas extend this further still, with a shared living and dining room and an expansive pool deck, suited to families or groups travelling together.

Safari Experience

Game drives explore the surrounding central Serengeti. Guests can also, for instance, book hot air balloon safaris and guided walks with a resident naturalist and Maasai guides, including the chance to help install a wildlife camera trap. The lodge’s scale, in addition, brings facilities uncommon in the Serengeti. Three restaurants, a wine cellar with tasting sessions, and a small museum on the ecosystem and migration sit alongside a cinema room and a full spa. A Maasai boma dinner with traditional dancing rounds out the experience.

When to Visit

The Serengeti offers strong year-round wildlife viewing from this central position. At points in its annual cycle, the migration moves through the wider area too. As a result, the lodge’s scale and facilities suit both shorter and longer stays equally well. However, its proximity to other major lodges means this area can draw more vehicle traffic during peak season than some quieter corners of the park.

Practical Information

The Seronera airstrip serves the lodge, roughly 40 to 45 minutes away by drive. With around 250 staff supporting a maximum occupancy of 180 guests, the property operates at a noticeably larger scale than the boutique camps found elsewhere in the Serengeti.

Combining Four Seasons Safari Lodge Serengeti with Other Tanzania Destinations

The lodge’s facilities and central position make it a comfortable, full-service anchor for a wider Serengeti stay. It also pairs naturally with Ngorongoro Crater and Tarangire as part of a broader northern Tanzania circuit.
