Meliá Serengeti Lodge sits on the naturally terraced southern slope of the Nyamuma Hills, looking down into the Mbalageti River Valley in the western Serengeti. Local natural materials and organic shapes, drawn from traditional Maasai colours and forms, define the build. As a result, the lodge brings Meliá’s international five-star hospitality standard to a part of the park that sees considerably less lodge density than the central and northern Serengeti.
Location and Landscape
The Mbalageti River Valley below the lodge supports lion, elephant, leopard, cheetah and giraffe. Hidden paths and secret viewing spots, specific to this western stretch of the park, run throughout the area. The lodge’s elevated hillside position, in addition, gives genuinely spectacular sunset views over the valley. Its relative distance from the busier Seronera corridor also means game drives here typically encounter fewer other vehicles.

However, the lodge’s relatively quiet position, away from the most heavily trafficked parts of the park, makes it a comfortable year-round base regardless of the herds’ exact location.
Practical Information
The Seronera airstrip serves the lodge, roughly a 45-minute drive away. By road from Arusha, in fact, the journey runs considerably longer, around 335 kilometres.
