Northern Serengeti, Near the Mara River — Nasikia Camps
Kaskaz Mara Camp sits in the far northern Serengeti, a short drive from the Kogatende airstrip and the Mara River. Unlike Nasikia’s mobile migration camp, Kaskaz operates as a permanent, year-round property. As a result, it suits guests wanting the charm of a tented camp alongside the reassurance of a fixed, well-established base.
The camp accepts both drive-in and game-package guests. This makes it a flexible option for honeymooners, families and small groups alike, regardless of how the rest of an itinerary is arranged.
Location and Landscape
The camp sits near the Nyamalumba Hills, within easy reach of the Mara River crossing points. From July to October, large herds of wildebeest and other herbivores cross here in search of fresh grazing. Outside this window, however, resident wildlife sustains strong viewing year-round. Guests regularly see all of the Big Five, alongside cheetah, caracal, serval, giraffe and a wide range of plains game.
Accommodation
Ten spacious tented suites make up the camp, each separated from its neighbours for genuine privacy. Large netted windows and flowing cotton curtains keep the tents naturally cool. Every suite includes an oversized bed, indoor and outdoor lounging areas, double vanities and en-suite facilities. Handcrafted Swahili-inspired decor, in addition, runs throughout.
Safari Experience
Game drives run twice daily, exploring the surrounding plains with experienced guides. These guides know the area closely, sharing details on both the larger animals and the Serengeti’s smaller, easily missed wildlife. Guests can also book guided nature walks with the camp’s own walking guide, and hot air balloon safaris at additional cost. A two-hour flight typically begins around 6am, followed by a champagne breakfast in the bush.
Evenings, finally, gather around the campfire for sundowners and bush stories, before a four-course dinner served communally or privately at a guest’s own suite.
When to Visit
July through October brings the Mara River crossings within easy reach of camp, the most sought-after window for migration viewing. Kaskaz also operates year-round, however, with resident wildlife sustaining strong game viewing through the rest of the calendar too.
Practical Information
Guests reach Kaskaz Mara Camp via the Kogatende airstrip, a short drive away. Children aged 5 and older are welcome. In low season, in addition, families of four or more guests typically receive a private safari vehicle as a matter of course.
Combining Kaskaz Mara Camp with Other Tanzania Destinations
Kaskaz pairs naturally with Nasikia’s other Serengeti properties, or with a stay further south for travellers wanting broader coverage of the migration’s annual cycle. Ngorongoro Crater and Tarangire, similarly, both extend into a wider northern Tanzania circuit, and Zanzibar offers a coastal close to the journey.
