Singita Ebony Lodge

Singita Ebony Lodge

Singita Ebony Lodge sits on the banks of the Sand River, within Singita’s privately owned reserve in the Sabi Sand. The reserve covers 45,000 acres in total. Twelve suites make up the lodge, each with its own private deck and plunge pool. As a result, the reserve’s frequent leopard sightings and high game concentrations come paired with genuine privacy at every suite.

Architecture and Suites

The main lodge has been opened up. This creates a greater sense of flow and access to views of the Sand River and beyond. Chunky, rounded Adobe architecture, inspired by West and North Africa, remains the lodge’s defining feature. This now combines with lightweight canvas and timber, giving a modern take on the classic safari lodge look. Natural light plays a starring role throughout. So does the greenery of the surrounding gardens and bushveld, lending Ebony a genuine sense of spaciousness.

Six river-facing suites suit couples or solo travellers. Each has a spacious bedroom, indoor dining area, and an outdoor deck shielded from neighbouring suites. Two bush suites share the same layout but face the bushveld instead, in a quieter corner of the camp. Family suites run considerably larger, averaging around 750 square feet. This suits families wanting genuine space, rather than a cramped extra bed.

Service and Dining

Singita Ebony was ranked the fourth-best safari lodge in Africa by Travel + Leisure’s 2020 World’s Best Awards. Service here draws consistent praise. Guests specifically note the staff-to-guest ratio and the level of personal attention. The lodge’s wine cellar holds some of South Africa’s top labels, with a dedicated sommelier available for tastings and pairings. The kitchen’s reputation extends well beyond standard lodge fare, drawing on global influences alongside South African classics.

Twice-daily game drives in open vehicles, capped at six guests, explore the reserve. Walking safaris led by experienced guides and trackers extend the experience further. Expect leopard, lion, rhino, large buffalo herds, elephant, cheetah and wild dog, among other species. A swimming pool, modern gym and spa round out the property’s facilities. For travellers wanting one of the Sabi Sand’s most acclaimed lodges, however, paired with genuinely spacious family suites when needed, Singita Ebony remains a benchmark within the reserve.
