Il Moran to Ruaha: The Connoisseur’s Circuit

11 nights across Kenya and Tanzania. The Masai Mara Reserve, the Serengeti’s central plains, and Ruaha’s remote wilderness — three registers of East Africa, connected entirely by private air.

Why This Sequence

Each stop on this circuit was chosen for what it adds against the one before it. Il Moran opens the journey inside the Mara Reserve itself — the highest concentration of predators in East Africa, and the flagship of the original Governors’ Collection since 1972. From there, the journey crosses into Tanzania to One Nature Nyaruswiga, in the Serengeti’s central plains — the same migratory ecosystem as the Mara, seen from its other end, at the other end of the year’s cycle. The circuit closes at Jabali Ridge, on a high rocky ridge above Ruaha National Park — Tanzania’s largest park, and among its least visited, a genuinely different register of wilderness after two chapters spent in East Africa’s best-known reserves. Every transfer between stops is by private charter — no road transfers on this circuit.

1 Night — Nairobi

The journey begins with a private arrival in Nairobi and a night to rest before the circuit begins in earnest — either Hemingways Nairobi or Fairmont The Norfolk, depending on preference.

3 Nights — Governors’ Il Moran Camp, Masai Mara

Il Moran is the flagship of the original Governors’ Collection, family-run since the camps first opened in 1972 — among the very first permanent tented camps in the Mara. Just ten tents line a bend of the Mara River, inside the Reserve itself, in a stretch of riverine forest that has barely changed in fifty years.

Private charter to Serengeti — no road transfer.

3 Nights — One Nature Nyaruswiga, Central Serengeti

Nyaruswiga sits in the Serengeti’s short-grass plains — the same ecosystem as the Mara, seen from its other end. Where Il Moran shows the river crossings, Nyaruswiga shows where the herds live for the rest of the year.

Private charter to Ruaha — no road transfer.

3 Nights — Jabali Ridge, Ruaha National Park

Jabali Ridge sits on a high rocky outcrop above Ruaha, Tanzania’s largest national park and one of its least visited — a genuinely different register of wilderness closing the circuit, after two chapters spent in East Africa’s best-known reserves.
