Uganda Visa Requirements

Last checked 15 October 2026.

Most visitors to Uganda need a visa, which must be applied for online before you travel. A single-entry tourist visa costs US$50; the East Africa Tourist Visa, covering Uganda, Kenya and Rwanda, costs US$100.

If you need a visa

This applies to most visitors from outside Africa, including holders of Indian, British, American, Canadian, Australian and European passports. Several African and other nationalities are exempt; check the official list or ask us.

  • Apply through the official portal, visas.immigration.go.ug. You upload your documents, pay online and receive an approval letter by email. Print it and present it on arrival, where your biometrics are taken.
  • Fee: US$50 for a single-entry tourist visa, allowing a stay of up to three months.
  • Validity: the approval must be used within 90 days of being issued.
  • Documents: passport valid for at least six months, a recent passport photograph, your itinerary or tour plan, and hotel bookings.

East Africa Tourist Visa

A single multiple-entry visa for Uganda, Kenya and Rwanda, valid for 90 days, costing US$100. You must apply through the country you will enter first, and enter that country first. It cannot be extended. See our East Africa Tourist Visa page.

If you do not need a visa

Citizens of East African Community countries, and of a number of other African and Commonwealth countries, can enter without a visa. Lists change, so check the immigration portal before you travel.

Moving on

Uganda is often combined with Rwanda for gorillas and chimpanzees, and with Kenya. If your journey covers two or three of these countries, the East Africa Tourist Visa can be simpler and cheaper than separate visas, though Kenya’s own travel authorisation rules should be checked too; see our Kenya visa page.

Health on entry

Since 2 October 2026 Uganda no longer requires a yellow fever certificate on entry, but vaccination is still recommended and neighbouring countries may ask for the certificate when you arrive from Uganda. See our yellow fever entry requirements by destination, and our guide to where to be vaccinated.

Beware of unofficial websites

Many look-alike websites sell visas at a mark-up. Apply only through the official government portal linked on this page.
