Lahia Tented Lodge
Musabi Plains, Western-Central Serengeti — Tanganyika Wilderness Camps
Lahia Tented Lodge sits atop a hill behind the Musabi Plains in the western-central Serengeti. Its main house offers a 360-degree panorama across the surrounding landscape. This elevated position gives the lodge views toward both central and western Serengeti. As a result, several of the park’s most notable landmarks sit within easy reach.
Location and Landscape
The lodge’s hilltop position takes in predator-filled plains stretching toward the famous Maasai kopjes and the Olduvai Gorge museum. The Seronera Valley and Grumeti River also sit within range for day excursions. At points in its annual cycle, the migration moves through the surrounding landscape, adding seasonal density to the area’s resident game.
Accommodation
The lodge offers around 25 en-suite tents built on raised wooden platforms, each with a private balcony looking out over the plains. Room configurations include standard doubles, family tents formed from two interconnected units, and bungalow rooms also built as interconnected pairs. Bathrooms include a bathtub alongside an outdoor shower.
Safari Experience
Game drives explore the surrounding plains and connect efficiently to nearby landmarks, including the Maasai kopjes and Olduvai Gorge. In addition, hot air balloon safaris, walking safaris and Maasai cultural visits are all available. Between activities, the lodge’s main house offers a comfortable base to return to, with its lounge, dining room and swimming pool. Each evening, finally, a campfire is lit for sundowners.
When to Visit
Lahia’s western-central position offers strong year-round game viewing. However, the migration’s exact timing through the area varies with rainfall each year. The dry season months, generally, provide the clearest conditions for the area’s predator-rich plains.
Combining Lahia Tented Lodge with Other Tanzania Destinations
Lahia pairs naturally with Tanganyika Wilderness Camps’ other Serengeti properties, Kubu Kubu Tented Lodge and Kati Kati Camp. It also suits a stay further north or south for broader migration coverage. Ngorongoro Crater and Tarangire, similarly, both extend into a wider northern Tanzania circuit.
Our Tanzania Safari Guide covers wider planning. For more accessible camps, in addition, see Tanzania Safari Camps.
