One Nature Mara River
Mara River, Northern Serengeti — One Nature
One Nature Mara River sits in the far north of the Serengeti, close to the river crossing points that define the Great Migration’s most dramatic chapter. The lodge sits roughly a 30-minute drive from the Kogatende airstrip. That puts guests within reach of the wildebeest and zebra herds as they brave the Mara River between July and October. Resident wildlife sustains strong game viewing the rest of the year.
Two villa types make up the property: a one-bedroom luxury villa and a two-bedroom presidential family villa. Both include a private heated pool. The decor favours a more eclectic, art-led style than the camp’s sister property at Nyaruswiga — patterned wallpapers, woven baskets and framed wildlife artwork set against natural wood and stone.
Location and Landscape
The lodge sits near the Mara River, giving guests a genuine front-row seat to the river crossings — one of the most concentrated wildlife spectacles in Africa. Thousands of wildebeest and zebra gather on the riverbank before crossing in waves. Crocodile and predators follow the same stretch of water, drawn by the same opportunity.
The surrounding plains hold a strong resident population beyond the crossing season. Guides regularly sight giraffe, zebra, elephant and lion from the lodge’s vehicles. This gives the destination year-round substance rather than relying on a single event.

Accommodation
The One-Bedroom Luxury Villa measures 151 square metres and sleeps up to three guests. It includes sliding panoramic glass windows, a private heated pool, a copper bathtub, indoor and outdoor showers, and a fire stove. An outdoor living and dining area sits around a private boma.
The Two-Bedroom Presidential Family Villa extends to 291 square metres across two en-suite bedrooms, connected by a shared living area. It also has its own private heated pool, two copper bathtubs, and an outdoor boma. Both villa types run on solar-powered air conditioning and include an in-room bar and fridge.
Safari Experience
The main guest area combines a lounge, bar and indoor dining room, all with views across the plains. A dedicated photography area lets guests edit images and rent camera equipment. A small gym and a spa both look out over the Serengeti.
Game drives focus on the Mara River crossing points between July and October, and on resident wildlife the rest of the year. Walking safaris give guests a slower, ground-level perspective on the surrounding bush. The lodge arranges bush breakfasts, private dinners and sundowners out on the plains rather than confining them to camp.

When to Visit
July through October brings the Mara River crossings directly past the lodge. This makes it the most sought-after season for travellers chasing that specific event. Outside this window, the surrounding plains still support strong resident wildlife. Visitor numbers in the area drop noticeably during these months, giving a quieter version of the same northern Serengeti landscape.
Practical Information
Guests reach Mara River by light aircraft to the Kogatende airstrip, followed by a short game drive to the lodge. As with Nyaruswiga, the charter flight’s limited cargo space restricts baggage to 15kg per person. Guests must use soft-sided duffel bags only.
Most nationalities can obtain a Tanzanian visa on arrival, though some require pre-approval. We recommend confirming this with the Tanzanian embassy ahead of travel. Guests pay visa fees in cash at immigration — USD 50 per person, or USD 100 for American citizens. We advise carrying the exact amount, since immigration does not always have change.
Travellers aged one year and above must carry yellow fever vaccination if arriving from, or transiting for more than 12 hours through, a country with risk of yellow fever transmission. Guests must present a valid vaccination certificate on arrival.
Combining One Nature Mara River with Other Tanzania Destinations
Mara River pairs naturally with One Nature Nyaruswiga in central Serengeti, and the two properties are connected by a dedicated combination discount for travellers booking both. Beyond the Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater and Tarangire both sit within a manageable transfer for a wider northern circuit, and Zanzibar offers a coastal close to the journey, under two hours away by light aircraft.
