Serengeti Bushtops

Wogakuria Area, Northern Serengeti — Bushtops

Serengeti Bushtops is a permanent luxury camp set on rolling hills in the Wogakuria area of the northern Serengeti. The Mara River sits roughly 24 kilometres away. The camp’s tents spread over a wide footprint — close to a kilometre between the first and last. As a result, each of its twelve to thirteen suites gets a genuine sense of privacy and isolation, rarely matched elsewhere in this part of the park.

Location and Landscape

The camp’s position places it directly in the path of the migration’s annual movement. Mara River crossings typically run from June through November. Outside this window, however, the surrounding savannah, scrubland and acacia woodland sustain strong resident wildlife. Notably lower vehicle traffic also sets this area apart from camps positioned closer to the river itself.

Accommodation

Wooden decking raises each tented suite above the ground, with a wraparound veranda, a sunken lounge area, and a private hot tub positioned to take in sunset views over the plains. Interiors include a large bed beneath mosquito netting, a writing desk, an electronic safe, and an en-suite bathroom with a separate flush toilet, washbasin and rainfall shower. Two family tents link a pair of standard tents via a connecting bridge, accommodating larger groups.

Safari Experience

Local Kuria trackers and spotters, drawn substantially from the surrounding community, support game drives in open 4×4 vehicles. Guests can also book guided walking safaris at additional cost, starting at the Mara River with an armed ranger. Hot air balloon safaris offer a further option for an aerial view of the migration. The camp’s elegant open-sided mess tent, complete bar and wine wall, and swimming pool round out the in-camp experience.

When to Visit

June through November brings the Mara River crossings within reach of camp, the most sought-after window for migration viewing here. November through April, by contrast, offers a quieter, more romantic alternative. Proximity to the river keeps resident wildlife strong, and considerably less vehicle traffic adds to the appeal.

Combining Serengeti Bushtops with Other Tanzania Destinations

Serengeti Bushtops can be combined with its sister property, Mara Bushtops in Kenya’s Maasai Mara, via a connecting charter route. This suits travellers building a journey across both sides of the migration’s ecosystem. Ngorongoro Crater and Tarangire, similarly, both extend into a wider northern Tanzania circuit.

Our Tanzania Safari Guide covers wider planning. For more accessible camps, see Tanzania Safari Camps.
