This Singita lodge sits on a gently sloping hill within the Grumeti Reserve. A waterhole here draws wildlife into direct view throughout the day. The architecture leans contemporary and organic rather than colonial. A back-to-basics palette of bone, ivory, nude and clay runs throughout, built from locally sourced natural materials. The lodge sits directly on the migration’s pathway through the reserve’s western corridor.
The lodge’s proximity to both the river and open plains gives it a close relationship with the surrounding wilderness. This is a different feel from the elevated, panoramic setting at its sister property, Sasakwa.
Location and Landscape
The lodge’s position on the migratory route means wildlife frequently moves directly past or through its sightlines. This happens particularly around the waterhole it overlooks. The reserve’s private status, shared across all of Singita’s Grumeti properties, keeps vehicle numbers low relative to the national park.
Game drives cover the wider concession. Lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and cheetah move through woodland and open ground here. Large herds of wildebeest, gazelle and Maasai giraffe pass through too, with minimal competing traffic.
Accommodation
Faru Faru offers nine suites in total. Seven are one-bedroom suites, one is a family suite with two bedrooms for two adults and two children, and one is a two-bedroom suite suited to four adults, with its own private infinity pool. The suites share the lodge’s organic, contemporary design language, distinct from the more formal manor-house style at Sasakwa.
Central areas include an interactive kitchen, a signature “bar-deli,” and both enclosed and open seating spaces. This balances retreat from the heat with close engagement with the view over the waterhole.
Safari Experience
A dedicated field guide leads daily morning and afternoon game drives. Afternoon drives conclude after a spot-lit evening return, revealing the reserve’s nocturnal wildlife. Guided walking safaris suit guests aged 16 and older, and hot air balloon safaris remain available too, at additional cost.
The lodge also offers stargazing, birdwatching and swimming. Curated experiences round things out further, including wine tastings, cooking classes, and guided meditation and yoga. A community visit, run through the Grumeti Fund, gives direct exposure to conservation and development work in the surrounding region.
When to Visit
A fairly constant, equatorial climate defines Singita Grumeti year-round. From November to May, the Green Season brings long warm days. Short downpours arrive too, transforming the reserve into lush grassland. From June to October, by contrast, comes the migration season. Conditions turn warm, dry and sunny as herds move through the wider ecosystem.
Practical Information
Scheduled flights and private charters both reach the Sasakwa airstrip. Singita arranges these directly within the Grumeti Reserve. Checked baggage on scheduled flights is limited to 15kg. Flight time from Kilimanjaro runs roughly 1 hour 15 minutes direct. From Arusha Airport, it’s closer to an hour.
The lodge sits in a malaria-risk area. Guests should consult a doctor about antimalarial requirements beforehand. Current vaccination guidance is also worth checking ahead of travel. The lodge operates year-round, with check-in at 13h00 and check-out at 11h00.
