Honeymoon Safaris

A safari honeymoon works differently from a beach honeymoon. The romance comes from privacy, pacing and shared attention rather than from set-piece gestures — and the best ones are planned that way from the start.

What Makes a Honeymoon Safari Work

Privacy matters more on a honeymoon than on any other kind of safari. Kenya’s private conservancy model — Laikipia, the Mara conservancies, Samburu — keeps vehicle numbers low and allows exclusive-use vehicles, so game drives are shared with no one beyond your own guide. Many properties also offer private dining set apart from the main lodge, which matters more for a honeymoon than for most other journeys.

Pacing matters just as much. A honeymoon compressed into too many stops starts to feel like logistics rather than time together. Two or three nights per property, rather than one, gives a honeymoon room to breathe — and gives each property time to reveal itself rather than being seen only in passing.

We generally avoid overt “honeymoon package” gestures — rose petals, forced champagne moments — in favour of properties and routing that create the conditions for romance without staging it.

Pairing Safari with the Coast

Many of the honeymoon journeys we design pair inland safari with time on the Indian Ocean coast — a natural structure for a honeymoon in particular, since it closes the trip on a different, more restful register than the bush. Jannah Lamu, a restored boutique residence in Shela on Lamu Island, is among the properties we return to for this — private, culturally rich, and a genuine change of register after days in the bush.

A Sample Journey

A Kenya Honeymoon: Peaks, Lakes & the Mara moves from the Aberdare foothills to Lake Naivasha and the Masai Mara — Hemingways Nairobi, the Fairmont Mount Kenya Safari Club, Loldia House and Governors’ Main Camp — three distinct Kenyan landscapes in a single, unhurried circuit.

Planning Your Honeymoon Safari

As with every Oloi Shorua journey, a honeymoon safari is planned individually rather than assembled from a fixed package — pricing is confirmed during planning, not fixed in advance.

If you are planning a honeymoon safari, we would be pleased to begin with a conversation.
