Kigelia Camp sits under a grove of ancient kigelia, or sausage trees, along a seasonal sand river in Ruaha National Park’s northern reaches. Design and Setting
Just six tents make up the camp, each set along the banks of the Sand River. The understated design enhances the surrounding wilderness rather than competing with it, letting wildlife, big skies and open horizons take centre stage. Lanterns light the camp softly after dark, giving Kigelia a calm, genuinely atmospheric feel once the sun goes down.
The camp’s vehicles run unusually comfortable for this style of property, with armchair-style seating, blankets and hot water bottles for cooler mornings. Each vehicle seats a maximum of six guests, with universal plug sockets and an on-board fridge. Kigelia is also one of the few camps in Ruaha holding a permit for night drives.
